— Ivan Nova is still on the active roster, although his role is “still undecided.” Phil Hughes will act as an emergency long reliever on Saturday and Sunday, just in case things get crazy. Chad Jennings says that Hughes and Burnett are still the scheduled starters for Tuesday and Wednesday.

Enjoy the game. Doesn’t get any better than Yankees-Red Sox!

As you know, the two teams are tied for 1st place in the AL East. In the best case scenario, the Yanks will lead the AL East by 3 after the series. In the worst case scenario, they will trail the Red Sox by 3 in the division, and have only a 5 game lead over Anaheim in the Wild-Card (if Anaheim pulls off a sweep).

Here is Ricky’s Yankees-Red Sox Podcast Preview (it’s at the bottom of the linked page). Also included in the podcast post, Ricky spoke with one of the writers at a Red Sox blog called Bosox Injection. The questions he asked and the answers the writer gave are all included in the link above.

Should be a fun series to watch. Have a good afternoon.

Morning Bits 8/5/11

Good morning all.  A Yankees sweep plus a Boston loss = a tie for first.  Today starts a three game series in Boston. Should be a good series.  Boston has owned the Yankees so far this season but hopefully things will change tonight.

Enjoy the weekend everyone.

And here are your morning links…

* The obvious article of: there is much on the line for the Yankees and Red Sox during this series.

* The Yankees might start to turn to the kids very soon.

* Prior set to pitch Friday in a Gulf Coast League game.

* The Yankees became just the 3rd team in modern history to complete a 4 game sweep without allowing a walk. Buster Olney says the others were Boston in 1965, and Boston again in 2005.

* Mark Feinsand looks at why Burnett is struggling so much, and it might be because he doesn’t get enough dissatisfied with himself.

Game Review from MLB.com’s Alden Gonzalez:

CHICAGO — Now that they’re all done in Chicago, the Yankees will make their way to Fenway Park for what is easily their most important series yet.

They couldn’t have asked for any more momentum.

On Thursday night — less than 24 hours before beginning a weekend series against the Red Sox — the Yankees matched their longest winning streak of the season at seven, moved into a first-place tie after Boston’s loss to the Indians, and got a 7-2 win on the heels of an Ivan Nova start that was every bit as dominant as it was important.
