— The bullpen certainly looked excellent yesterday. Boone Logan managed to strike Adrian Gonzalez out in just 3 pitches (very Damaso Marte-like), with the bases loaded. Logan started the 6th, but could not finish it, so Cory Wade came in and got out of trouble. Then, Rafael Soriano pitched the 7th, and looked fantastic. “I feel much better every day. The way I pitched [Friday] reminded me of the way I pitched in Tampa when I was a closer, so I feel very good today.” (Source: Bryan Hoch) If Soriano can pitch like last night (and last year for that matter), then the Yankees don’t need to pressure their starters to go deep into ballgames. And then, David Robertson and Mo took care of the 8th and 9th, respectively.

And here is the regular game review, from MLB.com’s Bryan Hoch:

BOSTON — The last time the Yankees stumbled out of the gate against the Red Sox, it didn’t matter much in the end. They rallied in late summer to even the season set and went on to win a 27th World Series championship.

If there’s any chance of a 2009 repeat, the Yankees would gladly sign up for it right now.

The streaking Bombers rolled into Fenway Park and reclaimed sole possession of first place in the American League East on Friday, securing a 3-2 win over the Red Sox — New York’s eighth straight victory.
