2011 ALDS: Game 5 | Yankees vs. Tigers

It would seriously be a good thing to have a little more of ^^^ in tonight's Game 5.

Lineup:

Derek Jeter SS
Curtis Granderson CF
Robinson Cano 2B
Alex Rodriguez 3B
Mark Teixeira 1B
Nick Swisher RF
Jorge Posada DH
Russell Martin C
Brett Gardner LF

Pitchers:

Ivan Nova (1-0, 2.84) vs. Doug Fister (0-1, 11.57)

Pregame Notes:

— Justin Verlander will not be making an appearance in tonight’s game, much to the delight of all Yankee fans. Max Scherzer, though, is available to pitch.

— Joe Girardi has said that Mariano Rivera and Dave Robertson could both throw 35-40 pitches. Sabathia is available for possibly 2 innings.

— He also mentioned that he’d imagine A.J. Burnett has earned an ALCS start. However, he is not thinking that far ahead of things yet.

Enjoy the game.

  1. hopefully we see the Sterling shake tonight.

  2. one last video before game time…

  3. Let’s win this…FOR NEW YORK!!!!

  4. Ugh well that’s not good.

  5. Um…that was bad…but Yankees have 8 innings!

  6. hopefully Nova settles down and he gets a 1-2-3 inning.

  7. I hope this quick hook doesn’t bite Girardi.

  8. Girardi is a failure!

  9. I have a feeling this has been Girardi’s plan all along to go with every pitcher. I feel he will only use C.C. in a tie game if it goes extra innings. Hopefully the Yankees get some runs soon.

    • Hello YFU…a ways to go. Hold on to your shorts. I hope Joe G. does not try to hyper- manage this game. He is very good, but at time he should stand back a bit.

  10. I hope Girardi runs out of pitchers and the Yankees lose. The he gets fired tomorrow!

  11. un Friggin real!!!!!!!

  12. Thank the lord! 3 more!!!

  13. Dan that’s ridiculous. I don’t mind criticism to the manager but your comment makes you just look foolish. Whether you like what the manager does or not, if you are a Yankee fan, you have to want them to win.

  14. I like how the bottom of the 7th is lined up. Gardy, Jeter, Granderson.

  15. No faith in Swisher. I hope he proves me wrong.

  16. So close that Jeter hit. oh well. if we can’t win it in the bottom of the 9th Granderson, Cano and A-rod then the Yankees deserve to lose. I would love nothing more than to see the Yankees win it off this knuckle head Valverde.

  17. oh well. thanks everyone. time for the off season.

  18. Congratulations to Leyland as he easily outwitted dumb ass..

    • Girardi did not lose the ballgame last night. The Yankees’ offense lost the game. There were too many big missed opportunities. If the offense doesn’t come up clutch, it’s not Girardi’s fault.

On his bullpen moves- You really can’t blame him either. The reality is, the bullpen had to pitch 6 innings. You can’t possibly expect for them to not give up 1 run in those 6 innings. It ended up being C.C. You still can’t fault Girardi.

You just can’t expect to get anywhere in the playoffs by scoring 2 runs in a game, when you had the bases loaded multiple times.

      • I disagree. Girardi had his team TIGHT last night and that is imo the biggest reason the Yankees lost.

        • I know alex is getting bad press cause he was the last to srike out. If it was Jeter i’m sure the bad press would have gone on him. We all knew A-rod was injured this season and wasn’t himself so i didn’t expect to to much from him. Again my concern is Swisher who can’t hit with runners on in the playoffs. I really hope the Yankees don’t pick up his option. He seems to Hollywood for me.

          • Alex didn’t offer much so why was he playing? If he was hurt wouldn’t Chavez have been a better choice as he was healthy? The difference in the series is that Detroit had the better manager.

            • Alex did play a stellar D this series though. His at bats not so much though.

              • Matt…the defense from Alex was good but team against team Detroit played better on defense. Again we have a manager who refused to risk anything and played soley by the BINDER. Sadly Leyland has that binder from his little league days.

  19. posting here so it’s cleaner. agreed Girardi is to much to the binder. it’s funny last night on facebook i can recall at least 5 posts from friends that said Girardi through your Binder away. it’s true. Montero had two hits coming in mid way through game 4 whey not give him a shot for game 5. switch it up. he had the same lineup through out the whole series.

    • Matt…I got your email and thank you. I will get back to you with more thoughts soon both here and by email.

Robertson to starter and Hughes to the pen.
Need better run scoring production out of the 1 hole.
CC if he opts out let him test the market an if he wants to come back DON”T OVERPAY!
      Sign CJ Wilson.
Find out if Montero can play a fair right field.

  20. I agree with you guys. Girardi is not the guy to blame for last night. He can’t get the clutch hit just like the other hitters can’t. I would really consider dumping A-Rod, but I don’t know who would take him. He’s not a cleanup hitter anymore, but will his ego keep him from accepting a lesser role?

People keep asking for Tex to leave for Pujols. I am a huge Tex fan and he had a good Game 5 last night. He had the double off Fister and then unlike Alex or Swish, he works a walk to draw in a run and does not try to do too much with the baseball.
