Brett Gardner snubbed at Gold Glove Awards; Wins Fielding Bible Award
By Delia E.
Well Yankees fans, if you were hoping for a fairy tale ending to Brett Gardner’s defensive year, it was a huge disapointment. Tonight during the ESPN Gold Glove Awards, Brett Gardner was snubbed for the Gold Glove in LF in favor of Alex Gordon of the Kansas City Royals. After reviewing at fangraphs.com, Gardner was actually very deserving of the award. ESPN left Yankees fans outraged. Although Gardner didn’t win the Golden Glove award (along with Mark Teixeira & Robinson Cano), Gardner did win the Fielding Bible Award for the second year in a row.
The Fielding Bible award even goes as far as saying that Brett Gardner is the new “Carl Crawford.” Gardner saved 22 runs, which was tied for the most runs in the OF, along with CF winner Austin Jackson. Over the last 2 years, Brett Gardner has saved 13 runs for the Yankees.
