C.J. Wilson’s agent, Bob Garber, said Tuesday that he is going to New York to meet with Yankees’ officials.

Garber met with Yanks’ GM Brian Cashman on Tuesday in Milwaukee. It’s not clear when the trip to New York will take place, but Garber said that the Bombers are among six or seven teams in serious talks for the free agent left-hander. Wilson, who is regarded as the best starting pitcher on the market, is believed to be asking for a six-year contract in the range of $100 million.

Andruw Jones recently underwent surgery to repair a partial tear in his right knee.

Jones played through the injury for most of the season, but was still productive as a right-handed bat of the bench. The 34-year-old batted .247/.356/.495 with 13 homers, 33 RBI and an .851 OPS over 222 plate appearances. Jones’ agent Scott Boras said Monday that he has spoken with the Yankees about re-signing him.

Miami Marlins offer Jose Reyes 6 years, $90 Million

Miami Marlins offer Jose Reyes 6 years, $90 Million

By Delia E.

I’m painfully aware that this is not Yankees news but it has been a very slow news day so far. The Miami Marlins have offered ex-New York Mets SS Jose Reyes a 6 year and $90 Million contract yesterday, reported Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. They claim that Reyes is intrigued in playing in warm weather & under the arm of new Miami Marlins manager Ozzie Guillen. Reyes however wanted a contract that was worth at least $100 Million.

Many in the MLB industry believe that the contract offer does sound good on paper, but they are unsure if it would be intriguing enough for Reyes to take. Reyes finished the 2011 season playing for the New York Mets who are a crosstown rival to the New York Yankees.

Morning Bits: Montero, Cashman, GM Meetings

Here are some links for the morning:

The Yankees vetoed winter-ball for Jesus Montero, who had expressed interest.

— Brian Cashman has arrived at the GM Meetings, but doesn’t expect any quick trades. “They are administrative meetings, mostly,” Cashman said.

— So far the offseason has been generally quiet heading into the GM Meetings.

— Cashman plans on talking around at the meetings, but will not be aggressive just yet.

Have a great day.
