Yankees viewed as front-runners for Yoenis Cespedes

by Mike D.

Via Frankie Piliere of Scout.com and FOXSports, many sources have pointed at the Yankees as the “clear front runners” for Cuban CF Yoenis Cespedes. As you know, the Yankees, Tigers, and Marlins have showed the most interest in the (supposed) 26 year old reportedly looking for $60MM. In 90 games in the 2010-2011 Cuban League season, Cespedes put up a .333 AVG / .424 OBP / .667 SLG line, with 33 HR, 99 RBI and 89 runs.

According to ESPN Boston’s Gordon Edes, the agent for outfielder Yoenis Cespedes is telling interested teams that his client wants a $60 million contract.

That’s double what Aroldis Chapman received from the Reds. Cespedes is a workout wonder and has drawn the attention of all of baseball’s large-market teams, but he carries many unknowns. It would be surprising to see the Cuban defector actually land a $60 million deal this winter. So far, the Yankees, Tigers and Marlins have shown the most interest.
