Yankees are hopeful that David Adams will be ready for spring training

Adams, 24, was limited to just 29 games this past season due to a nagging ankle injury, but the Yankees still elected to protect him from this December’s Rule 5 Draft. “He’s still rehabbing,” said Yankees senior vice president of baseball operations Mark Newman. “We’ll see how it goes. We’re hopeful. He works his rear end off. He’s a fabulous guy, and he’s got ability.” The 2008 third-round pick has an impressive .291/.375/.447 batting line in the minors, but hasn’t played anything close to a full season since 2009.

Several teams are kicking the tires on acquiring A.J. Burnett

George A. King III of the New York Post reports the Yankees have maintained that they are only willing to eat $8 million of the $33 million left on his contract, but they’ll need to do better than that in order to get a deal done. Further complicating matters is that Burnett can block trades to 10 teams. The 34-year-old right-hander went 11-11 with a 5.15 ERA and 173/83 K/BB ratio over 190 1/3 innings this past season with the Bombers. We’re expecting him to stay put.

Update 2:20pm:

A source told ESPN New York’s Andrew Marchand that the Yankees do not have interest in Roy Oswalt.

The veteran right-hander began the offseason in search of a three-year contract, but he didn’t find much interest. Now, with news that his asking price has been lowered significantly, that interest is picking up in a major way. Oswalt is plagued by chronic back problems but he still managed to post a 3.69 ERA in 23 starts this past year with Philly. The Nationals, Yankees, Red Sox and Royals are known to be considering him.

Yankees are reportedly “BIG” on Yoenis Cespedes

Yankees are reportedly “BIG” on Yoenis Cespedes

by Matt S.

According to Kevin Goldstein of Baseball Prospectus, the Yankees are very big on Yoenis Cespedes. The 26-year-old Cuban defector is expected to gain residency in the Dominican Republic at some point this week, and will be eligible for major league free agency soon after. Cespedes is likely to draw bids from most of baseball’s biggest spenders, but the Yankees have been quiet all winter and would probably have to be considered the favorite if they’re truly enamored. The Marlins, Cubs and Tigers are among his other potential suitors.
