Indians have called about Nick Swisher

by Matt S.

According to Ken Rosenthal of, the Indians are one of several teams who have called the Yankees to inquire about Nick Swisher.  We’ve heard that the Indians are pursuing every hitter on the market aside from Prince Fielder, so it’s not surprising they would call. However, the Yankees are not inclined to move him as they don’t have a competent in-house replacement for right field. Swisher’s $10.25 million club option for 2012 was exercised in late-October.

  1. just read the red sox are working out a monster deal with the A’s to get Andrew Bailey and Gio Gonzalez.

    • It will be interesting to see what come of all of this in the next 12 to 24 hours.

It looks like the writer is covering all his bases, chances are one of those comments below will be right. But I guess that’s why they call it “RUMORS”.

A’s Talking Gio Gonzalez, Andrew Bailey
By Ben Nicholson-Smith [December 22 at 2:44pm CST]

2:44pm: The Red Sox are trying to get Gonzalez and Bailey in a “monster deal,” tweets Rosenthal. The Rays are also in on Bailey and the Nationals are the team to beat on Gonzalez, Rosenthal reports.

    • That would suck. I could see a 3-way trade but I can’t imagine what the Sox would have to give to satisfy the As for both Gio & Bailey. A 3way….Bailey to Red Sox, Gio to Wash, tons of prospects to A’s seems logical.

  2. Just curious. I know the Yankees right now don’t have a viable replace for Swisher if they were to trade him. But let’s just assume the Yankees signed Cespedes for one minute. Swisher becomes expendable.

But what do the Indians have that might interest the Yankees?

  3. Well looks like the Nats got him. 2 nice pitching prospects ready to go in Peacock & Milone, and a possible starting Catcher in Norris and a young A-ball pitcher in Cole with big upside.

    Glad Boston didn’t get him.

    • fishjam, do you think there is any possibility that all this talk about the Red Sox is just something they are doing to give their fans a warm and fuzzy feeling that they are “trying” to do something this winter.

Because it seems like ever since the winter meetings the Red Sox name has been linked to every possible player that has even been mentioned in a trade.

      • Possible. But I think they are trying to make moves but are coming up short since they dealt most of their upper-level chips for Adrian. I def expect them to bring in an established closer with Bard going to rotation.

  4. This is what Mike Axisa over at RAB says a comparable Yankees package would have been for Gio Gonzalez. Personally I think it’s would have been way to much to pay for Gio especially when you look at Gio’s numbers versus AL East teams..

    …and I quote:
“Since I know so many of you will ask, a comparable Yankees package would have been something like Manny Banuelos, David Phelps, Adam Warren, and Austin Romine. I’m not Brad Peacock’s biggest fan, so chances are I’m underselling the comparable Yankees package a bit. There was a lot of speculation about Gio and the Yankees, but it was never much more than that. They never seemed hot on his trail, and I don’t blame them.”
