Sources told ESPN New York’s Wallace Matthews that the Yankees are unlikely to trade for Matt Garza.  The Cubs want young pitching in return, and the Yanks are refusing to give up top pitching prospects Manny Banuelos and Dellin Betances. Garza, 28, is also drawing interest from the Blue Jays, Tigers, Red Sox and Marlins. He posted a 3.32 ERA and 197/63 K/BB ratio in 198 innings this past season for Chicago.

Friday is last day to work a deal with Nakajima

The Yankees have until Friday to work out a deal with Japanese shortstop Hiroyuki Nakajima.  The deadline was originally reported as Tuesday, but that was apparently incorrect. Still, the Yankees are far apart in negotiations with the 29-year-old Nakajima and he’s said to be considering a return to his native Japan. They simply can’t offer him a guaranteed roster spot.

Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports that the Yankees “have been talking about” Edwin Jackson. But they don’t like his current asking price, which is thought to be five years, $60 million. Jackson’s agent, Scott Boras, is likely to be as patient as possible with the right-hander, hoping to lure a panic move out of a team desperate for quality rotation depth. Jackson had a 3.79 ERA and 148/62 K/BB ratio in 199 2/3 innings last season between the White Sox and Cardinals.
