Yankees Are Interested In Raul Ibanez

By Delia E.

According to Kevin Kernan of the New York Post, the Yankees are interested in free agent Raul Ibanez. Ibanez has drawn interest from multiple clubs such as the Tigers & the Mets but 10 days ago the ACES have contacted the Yankees about Ibanez meaning that there is mutual interest.

Last season Ibanez had a .245/.289/.419 line while with the Philadelphia Phillies. ESPN’s Buster Olney had said that he believes that Ibanez would be a good fit in the Bronx.

  1. Well Ibanez could be a good DH pickup if its a 1yr deal. I think personally I might prefer to sign someone on a cheap 1 yr deal than trade away one of your pitchers.

  2. I’m all in for Ibanez. Sounds good to me.

  3. Ibanez falls into the same category as Damon & Matsui and has been discussed ever since Montero was traded. If Cashman wants to fill the DH spot on the cheap then offer all 3 the same $1-2M you have and see who accepts it but do we really need another 40-yr-old declining player on his last legs? Posada could have been an option if that is the case.

Cashman has stated he’s like to trade for a DH and he has a surplus of starting pitching depth. Montero was a serious, potentially middle of the order bat this season so to replace him with a 40-yr-old coming off a .245/.289/.419/.707 season is going to short-change the offense.

Reminds me a little of the grand Randy Winn idea.
