Yankees & Pirates Have Framework For Possible Burnett Trade Set

Yankees & Pirates Have Framework For Possible Burnett Trade Set

By Delia E.

According to Buster Olney of ESPN, he says that the Yankees and Pirates have framework set for the possible A.J Burnett trade and they are now working through the conditions of the framework. The Burnett deal is not done but the Yankees and Pirates have common ground and as of today the Pirates are a clear front runner for Burnett. Olney also reports that the Yankees haven’t agreed on the final players of the trade or the dollar amount but they are talking within common ground to settle all of those details.

Pirates, Yankees making progress toward A.J. Burnett trade
Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News was told by a source on Saturday night that there’s a “good chance” of A.J. Burnett being dealt to the Pirates.

It appears that source was onto something.

According to ESPN’s Buster Olney, the Pirates and Yankees have the “framework” of a deal “in place.”

Olney says the two teams haven’t agreed on the other players who will be swapped nor the exact dollar amount that will change hands — two of the biggest factors in any trade — but they’re talking within a “common ground” and beginning to make steady progress.

Burnett, 35, posted a 5.15 ERA and 173/83 K/BB ratio in 190 1/3 innings (32 starts) last season. The Yankees are expected to eat more than $20 million of the $33 million remaining on his current deal

  2. Did you mean Valentine’s Day, Tuesday?

  3. Unfortunately I wasn’t blessed with patience. I want him to go away NOW.

    A.J. Burnett Rumors: Sunday
By Zach Links [February 12, 2012 at 12:10pm CST]
The Yankees likely will pay $19-23MM of $33MM remaining on Burnett’s contract and receive multiple minor leaguers in return, according to a source with knowledge of the discussions, writes Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. Those prospects would not be players on the Pirates’ 40-man roster, the source said.

  5. I wonder who the multiple minors leagues the Yankees would get in return are?

Don’t get me wrong I’m not complaining. I’ll take any body even if it’s just a warm body. I’m just curious.

  6. I’m wondering how far down the food chain the other players are!

    • As long as they are on the food chain that’s good enough for my.

    • Ken I would trade him for a bag of balls and a used L-screen.LOL

      • Ballpark. Good to see you around. one week away from spring training!!!

        • Thanks Matt ,the site is looking good.I’m staring to feel pretty good about the Yanks.I like the pitching additions and moving AJ would be great.Adding a lhbat would be nice.
IMHO Yanks have a problem with the left side of the infield.Jete and Arod are close to 80 combined and the range is gone .Having them next to each other creates a huge whole. I would love to see the Yanks trade for Headly he could be the glove and the bat we need.
Yanks could then try to keep Jete with Headly and nunez with Arod as often as possible.
I think Arod Should only play 3rd max 80 games and I would like to sees nunez get 50 games at ss.Yanks need to find out if Nunez is the future as there is a real lack of 2 way players at ss in Baseball.

          • Ballpark…
Good to see you around again.
I have a bone to pick with you, IF A-rod can field as well as last year and he is injury free, I say 100 games at the least!
Ok, 100 or 80, I don’t care if he only bats once all year as long as the Yankees win it all…I’m easy!
As for Nunez, I think the bat is there but, he needs to play a lot more SS to be as good as I and a few others think he can become. He has the same problem a lot of rookies have, concentration…plus they have him working at three infield positions plus the OF. One has to be able to do, even as or before they think of doing…repetition is the key word here. Sounds a bit like you said above, oh well, if I were you, I would be worried about thinking along the same lines as I!
            Welcome back, big guy! 🙂

            • Ken I like your style…..
Nunez was shaky when he was playing sporadicly and in multiple positions .When he played on a regular basis he was much better .The kid has all the tools and the only thing he needs is to become steady,
So far I think 2b is his best position he has more range that Cano.If he can’t cut it a ss some team should trade for him .he could be an allstar at 2b.

  7. True uyf1950 but, I am on the food chain at 73 and you are too. If they are as good as we are (OK, were) then we can drop A-Rod, CC and Jeter! Ok, so I fibbed a little bit…alright already…a lot!
I am with you on this one, if they are usable I think that will be enough. Not all of our players will ever see the Major Leagues without a ticket, so more bodies…ain’t all bad,

  8. There is a rumor going around that the player the Yankees could be getting back in return from Pittsburgh is RHP Nick Kingham, That from Pinstripe Alley.

  9. uyf1950….good evening. Nick Kingham, finally found him. He is in the Gulf Coast League.
Yes, pitcher…76 Innings….2.15 era. Less k’s than innings, may not be a power arm.
My guess…..it’s the Royals. They have a attractive AAA bat, and the Yanks could even add a chip into the mix for him. Stay well.

    • Good Evening. At this point I really don’t care who it is. As long as the Yankees make the deal with somebody (team). We’ll just have to wait and see, I guess.

  10. Cashman is on a roll this off season, I would expect another good move on his part. The Yanks are shaping up pretty good at this point. I would like to see CC, Kuroda, Pineda, Nova, and Hughes as the starters at the end of the spring.

    • Hey Doug. Welcome. That rotation sounds good to me.

    • I agree with that rotation Doug IF Hughes proves himself this Spring. If he doesn’t look strong in ST, I’d give the 5th spot to Garcia and start Hughes in extended Spring training until he proves he’s ready. However, i think Hughes will be OK. He knows this may be his last chance to prove himself as a starter with the yankees and from all accounts he took his workouts seriousy this winter.

I still think the team is short a good LH bat and capable backup 3B capable of starting for long stretches if ARod goes down. Headley would fill both those roles. If they sign Ibanez and Chavez I won’t be pleased.

      • Fishjam….Ibanez and Chavez!
Cashman wouldn’t, couldn’t do that…could he, would he? Nine, nine, never going to happen. I don’t care how little the cost is for washed up players, we have young guys as good or better then those two guys. Use them, at lest let us see what they can do.

        • Whats up Ballpark? Glad to see AJ will soon be gone. I hope Cashman will use the $5-7 Million he’ll save on AJ this year to trade for a legit DH. The broken down vets on the FA market don’t excite me.

          • Sup fish. I would love to hear the rumors of a team paying 10 mil of his salary go to 17mil.

            • Matt, I don’t think think it will get up that high “$17MM” but it would be nice. I think closer to $14MM is the most we can hope for. Even that would be great.

Also, just as a side note on a different topic. Today is the arbitration hearing for David Ortiz. If they don’t come to some sort of last minute settlement it will be interesting to see who wins, Ortiz at $16.5MM or the Red Sox at $12,65MM. If Ortiz does win it could have an impact on the Sox trying to sign Oswalt before spring training in the next week.

              • uyf1950….
I would shed no tears over them not getting Oswalt. I have a feeling it won’t make any difference how much they have to spend this year. 2014 is the year to worry about money not now.
