Morning Bits: Teixeira, Rodriguez, Girardi, Ibanez

Good morning everyone and a Happy Sunday to you all! Mark your calendars because on Saturday March 3 is the first Spring Training televised game on YES! Now onto the Morning Links!

— Mark Teixeira is 10-15 pounds lighter, plans to close his stance a bit vs. left handed pitching and plans to drop a bunt down from time to time. But the question is, is the shift getting to Mark Teixeira’s head?

— Wallace Matthews of ESPN asks wonders, where should A-Rod bat in the lineup this season?

— Joe Girardi rounded up his team yesterday and said one thing to them: We’re here for 28.

Raul Ibanez admits that the 2009 World Series haunted him but says that wearing the Yankee Pinstripes are a privilege.

* FYI tomorrow at 7pm Matthew B. will be hosting a chat to talk all things Yankee related.  Stop on by and bring your questions.

  1. Here is a stat the Yankees have 3 guys on the team who were in the top 7 in saves in 2010

    1. Soriano 45
    6. Mariano 33
    7. Aardsma 31

  2. Matt, I look at it this way for 2013, Soriano will close or he walks. I don’t think the Yanks want to lose Mo and Soriano in one year. That would be a big hit. On the other side Cashman never wanted Soriano, they could go the other way if Aardsma healthy. Cashman is leaving himself an out. By making Robertson the closer and Aardsma the 8th the Yanks save alot of money. Alot depends on Joba, he could pitch the 7th next year and then slide in Betances, Warren, and Phelps.

  3. What is everyone’s “What to watch for in 2012?” Please give one for hitting and one for pitching.

    for me.

Hitting – Can Tex raise his average

Pitching – Can Hughes return to himself of two years ago.

    • Hitting – Can Gardner be consistent on offense

Pitching – Can David Robertson pitch like he did in 2011?

    • hitting—A-Rod do you have another Big Year left

      Pitching—Nova are you real?

    • Hiiting – The whole team has to get its BA up and Teixeira is the poster boy for that.

Pitching – Can Nova & Pineda avoid the sophomore slump? It gets tougher after the scouts have a year’s worth of footage to look at in the off-season to adjust to what you did which is why many players struggle after big rookie years.

      • fishjam, I think Tex is a product of the shift left handed, his job is to hit with power and drive in runs. It is frustrating to watch though. The Yanks have mantained their run production even with A-Rod out, and Tex not hitting for average, #2 in baseball last year. I think they will be 1 or 2 this year.

  4. Pitching – Who will be the #2 pitcher

Hitting- Can Grandy repeat last year.
