  1. Nova looks very good tonight. Granted it’s not the regular Sox line up but nevertheless it’s still a nice outing for him through 4 innings. Line: 3 K’s, 2 hits, 20 balls thrown for strikes and zero runs. Several very good outings by the Yankees starters the past few days. Good to see them starting to round into shape as spring training goes on.

    • Yes, Nova looked good today. Got the FB up a few times but hit the corners with it often.threw some excellent change Ups tonight….even to RH hitters The Curve and Slider were OK too. Overall, very good outing.

  2. That’s it for Nova for the night. 4 very nice innings. Mo in, in the 5th.

  3. Ahh hah……Pinella said the same thing about Zoilo I said last week……reminds me of Cano!

    • Almonte could wind up being a god send for the Yankees for the 2013 season. If they offer Swisher arbitration and he refuses. Which btw, I think they will do.

    • I read today that in order for the Yankees to qualify for that revenue sharing “rebate” that’s in the NEW CBA the Yankees must be under the luxury tax threshold 2 years in a row. That means 2014 and 2015. It’s a pretty good chunk of change they stand to get back just on that not counting the saving in resetting the tax % meter back to 17.5%. Could mean over $60MM for 2 years if you count resetting the the tax %.

  4. Boy all the pitchers are looking good tonight.

  5. Phelps is looking good again tonight, this kid is close to making it. I am very impressed with him. I think we will see him sometime this year as the first pitcher to come up from AAA.

  6. Phelps is really improving his stock this ST. He just breezed through 3 of the Red Sox best hitting prospects. Theis kid has perfect mechanics, great command, he’s poised and has good stuff. FB was 92-94, and he got strikes on his Curve, Change Up and something that lookedlike a Cutter.

    • fishjam, ditto that, if I’m Girardi I would think hard about bringing him north. He looks like he belongs alot more than he did last year, he has alot of confidence in his stuff.

    • It’s interesting how Phelps has been pretty much overlooked by most if not all of the baseball sites that rank/rate “prospects”. Good to see him making a case for the Yankees active 25 man roster.

  7. Padilla looks like he’ll help the Sox a bit.

    • I saw Bard the other night, he looked great, throwing mid 90s. It will be interesting to see if he can make the change to starter. He threw better than any of the pitchers in tonights game.

  8. If this was the regular season this game might be considered an “instant classic”.

  9. Very good game by both teams. Interesting 1-0 loss by the Yankees. Zero ER’s but 3 errors (all by none regulars).
