Morning Bits: Joba, Jeter, Pettitte, Ibanez

Good morning all.  Let’s get right to the links….

* MLB.COM has a nice article about Joba and his rehab.

* Jeter misses his old pal Posada.  Kinda glad to see some new faces myself.

* Ibanez is fighting to show the Yankees that they made the right choice.

* Old questions loom over Andy Pettitte.

  1. From the Journal news…… Freddy Garcia is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Tuesday for the first time since injuring his hand.

    • I’ll bet a penny that the Garcia hand injury will be the reason Girardi uses for not putting Freddy in the rotation even though he probably had his mind made up before ST started.

  2. Gentlemen, for what’s it worth with the Pettitte signing I have the Yankees opening day payroll at just about $210MM (that’s including Pettitte). For MLB Luxury Tax Purposes including all the stuff they include benefit’s, 40 man roster, etc… the Yankees AAV payroll comes out to just about $212MM which means they will have approximately a $14.3MM +/-luxury tax bill due to MLB at the end of 2012.

The only thing I have NOT included is A-Rod’s milestone incentive of $6MM. He needs 31 HR’s to reach that milestone.
