Morning Bits: Pitching, Swisher, Closer Audition

Good morning all Yankees vs the Orioles tonight at 7:05 which will be on the Yes Network.   Enjoy the day and enjoy the game.  Now onto the links…..

* USA Today has a nice article on the Yankees take youthful, cost-conscious approach to pitching.

* Swisher has a busy day at the plate collecting four hits as he tested out his injured groin.

* Will the 2012 season be the year of the closer audition?

* Decision is near as Girardi will make his mind up soon about the rotation.

This Tweet should make some smile or cringe.

  1. Tampa as the first series is going to be a good test for the Yankees. They have a stacked pitching rotation so the Yankee bats will have some hard competition right off the bat.

  2. So I just saw the Mariners & Athletics game. Bartolo Colon for the A’s went 8 innings giving up 1 run on 3 hits while Jesus Montero for the Mariners had his first hit of the season.

    • I just looked at the box score myself. Nice showing by Colon good for him. As for Montero I am sure the papers are going to compare Montero to Pineda every week to see if the trade was worth it.

      • I think the Pineda for Montero trade will probably be the most over-analyzed trade of the 2012 season. We can’t tell right at this moment if the trade was worth it. I’d give it until June-July and then see if the trade was a good move.

        • that still might be a rush of judgement but I know people have the right to do that. To have a good sense of it I would think one must look probably at down the road 3 to 5 years of this trade. Is Pineda a #2? Is Montero only a DH? More time would show more holes or non-holes in the trade.

        • Delia, your really have to wait 3 years to see how this trade turned out. All the players are too young to go by what they do this year. Myself. I never like to rate a trade after the fact, it’s not fair to the players involved. I quess that’s because I was a coach and player. At the time of the trade I thought it was a good trade for both teams. The Yanks got 2 great arms that are under control for along time, which is just what they needed with the 189 cap in 2014. Montero is a great hitter with no position on the Yanks other than DH. I think this was a great trade for both teams similar to the Grandy trade. All of the teams in that trade made the playoffs last year. A good trade is one that helps all teams involved. It also helps the GM when he is trying to make another trade like the Montero-Pineda trade.
