Morning Bits: Rotation, Pettitte, Girardi, Nova, Pineda

Good morning everyone today is the day most people look forward to as the weekend is now hear. A week from today is also the Yankees first regular season game against Tampa Bay.  Tonight the Yankees play the Phillies at 7PM.  The game will be televised on the Yes Network.  Pineda is on the mound tonight.  Will this be a showcase to see if he makes the team or will he be sent to AAA.   I’m sure most of you will be tuning in to watch.

Let’s get right to the links…..

* David Waldstein of the New York Times writes about how the Yankees are still uncertain about the rotation.

* Mark Feinsand of The Daily News has a piece on how Andy Pettitte is shaping up before making his spring game debut.

* Marc Craig of The Star Ledger mentions that Joe Girardi faces a host of possibilities for the pitching staff.

* ESPN New York has a nice video of Yogi and Guidry.

* Bryan Hoch of mlb.com reports that Nova’s last outing helps his chances of making the rotation.

Enjoy these highlights of Pineda’s season from last year that I found on Youtube from user ItsZane.

  1. Ballpark or Fish what are your thoughts and things you notice about Pineda from the video above?

    • That’s the pitcher Cashman saw when he made the trade. That guy with a changeup can be a definite front-end starter. The only question is can he get the velocity back that he lost in the 2nd half last yr. Didn’t help himself by coming into camp overweight. He looks a good 20-25 pounds lighter in the videos above than he showed up to camp at. By Girardi’s remarks, he has to have a good outing tonight or Joe may leave him in Extended ST to get in shape. Besides the velocity, he has not been able to throw more than 5 innings yet. His slider is one of the nastiest pitches in baseball even without the big velocity.

  2. The guys a monster and dominates hitters.
