CC throws 8 strong innings as Yanks defeat Rays 5-3

The Yankees turned to CC Sabathia for the game deciding series and in the end it turned out well as the Yankees beat the Rays 5-3.

CC ACES HIS TEST: CC Sabathia pitched 8 innings of 2 run ball as he showed why he was the Yankees ace. Sabathia’s both runs were unearned since Eduardo Nunez made errors both in the 1st and 2nd inning. Nunez was eventually lifted in the 6th inning in favor of Jayson Nix. This is Sabathia’s 4th start in a row that he has pitched into the 8th inning.

GARDNER HAS A SETBACK: The Yankees were expecting to have Brett Gardner back tonight to finish the Tampa Bay series but he had a minor setback after complaining of  soreness and swelling in his elbow. The Yanks sent Gardner for an MRI and revealed that Gardner re-strained his muscle in his elbow. The plan is to have Gardner not pick up a bat for 10 days but the Yankees might not have Gardner back for another 15-25 days. This is a big blow to the Yankees but it not as bad as percieved before the game. There is no structual damage so he avoided the worst case scenario.

TEIXIERA CONTINUES TO STRUGGLE: Mark Teixiera isn’t winning any brownie points with the Yankees fans after another bad day at the plate. Teixeira is hitting .212 with 4 HR & 17 RBI’s. Can anyone say ‘move Tex down in the order?’ Anyone?

WHAT’S NEXT: Jesus Montero returns to the Bronx but this time in a Seattle Mariners uniform. The Yankees will have a 3 game set vs. the Mariners. Hiroki Kuroda will get the start tomorrow, Ivan Nova will get the start on Saturday and Andy Pettitte who is making his 2012 debut will get the start on Sunday.

  1. I’m sure Montero will get a nice cheer from the crowd tonight.
