Morning Bits: Noesi, Mariners, Nunez, Montero

Good morning Yankees fans and happy Saturday to you all! Phil Hughes will take the mound versus Seattle’s Hector Noesi. Here are the morning links

— ESPN New York breaks down Hector Noesi’s last couple of starts for the Mariners. Being a former Yankee, it shouldn’t be hard to get runs off him, right?

— Seattle Mariners GM says that he feels ‘bad for the Yankees’ after the Montero & Pineda trade. Oh, so they originally tried to con us to get Montero?

— As we all know by now the Yankees have sent Eduardo Nunez to Triple-A to work on being a shortstop. Not sure, but to me this sounds like he might become trade bait…

— The Daily News talks about how Jesus Montero envisioned hitting the ball over the right field wall--and then does it anyway with a 6th inning solo shot. I know it was for the good of the team so that we could get starting pitching, but Montero is really hitting–for Seattle.

  1. With a 2 Hit game Jeter tie Tony Gwynn today on the all time career hit list….

    17. Robin Yount 3142
    18. Tony Gwynn 3141
    19. Derek Jeter 3139

  2. Josh Hamilton is just raking. Imagine him with the short porch at Yankee Stadium. I know we have to much money tied up already but a guy can dream.

    • Matt…
Do you remember the article I wrote a year or two ago about Josh?
I said then that he is the closest thing to a 5 tool player I have ever seen since Mickey! I also said comparing his tools to Mickey’s, makes him “Almost 5 Tool” player but only because of speed.
Josh is not the closest thing to a 5 tool player, he is and has been a 5 tool player. Now players can be compared to him and not Mickey, it may or may not be easyer. Josh has about 4-5 good years left in him. (IF) he can stay healthy….who knows.
IN my rating system, I have seen 3 5-tool players in 60+ years #1 Mickey Mantel, #2 Josh Hamilton, #3 A-Rod. One must not judge A-Rod by what you see to-day. Until he went to Texas he was a super 5-tool player, use the same reasoning with Mickey. Josh just needs 4 more super years to join the 8 year spread needed. Hello, Cashman! 🙂
