Morning Bits: Girardi 500 wins, Cashman, Gardner, Nationals

Good morning everyone and happy Saturday to you all! Andy Pettitte takes the mound as a 40 year old for the first time against Jordan Zimmerman, but of course we know Andy has been drinking from the Fountain of Youth (kind of like Mariano Rivera). Anyway, onto the morning links.

— Last night’s win wasn’t only special because the Yankees won 7 games in a row, but last night’s win was also Joe Girardi’s 500th career win as a manager. Congrats skipper. Maybe the binder has some use after all.

— Brett Gardner is scheduled to be back by the end of July from an elbow muscle strain (that the Yankees didn’t let heal properly) but Brian Cashman isn’t looking for a Gardner replacement in the meantime.

— The Yankees know that since the last time they actually played the Nationals things have changed and right now, the Nationals aren’t a doormat that the Yankees can just step on anymore. Unless you get rid of Stephen Strasburg, Bryce Harper, Adam LaRoche…heck, try the whole team.
