Spring Training Notes: 3/10/12

Michael Pineda during today's 8-3 win over the Braves

Good evening Yankees fans! The New York Yankees swept the Atlanta Braves in a 2  game series today, winning 8-4. Here are some notes from today.

— Eduardo Nunez felt pain in his hand while taking batting practice so he will be shut down for another couple of days.

— Joe Girardi plans on traveling to Fort Meyers to see Phil Hughes in his start instead of staying in Tampa to watch CC’s start. According to Girardi, he was pleased with Hughes’s last outing and doesn’t find Hughes’s last outing concerning.

— Here was what Mark Teixeira said about Michael Pineda today. “We don’t need him to be a 30-win All-Star. We need him to be Michael Pineda. Whatever he’s comfortable doing on the mound … it’s not like he came in here to be the savior of our rotation. We have a pretty good rotation.”

— Here was an interesting fact. For the past two days, the Yankees have been playing the Atlanta Braves. It turns out that the Atlanta Braves was the team that OF Brett Gardner followed ever since he was a kid. Must have been cool to be playing against one of your favorite teams.

— The Yankees will have a Split Squad tomorrow. The Yankees vs. Phillies game will be on YES Network and for those of you stuck at work, John Sterling & Suzyn Waldman will be on WCBS. The Yankees vs. Twins game will be on MLB Network.
