And now onto today’s top stories in Yankees Universe:

Joba Chamberlain pitched early this morning for the Gulf Coast Yankees and looked impressive. He went a hit-less inning giving up 1 unearned run and 2 strikeouts. This was the first time Chamberlain got into game action since having Tommy John Surgery last season. He believes he could be back to the Yankees by August 1st.

David Aardsma got the results from his tests from his doctor and according to him all is well. Aardsma is just waiting for the doctor to give him the green light on when he can throw again.

— It didn’t seem like it was a possibility but today Mariano Rivera‘s rehab doctor Dr. Pyne revealed that Mariano Rivera might be able to pitch in 2012 after all. He says that since Rivera had did some pre-rehabilitation work before the surgery, he is in an advanced recovery state where he could possibly get on a mound by the end of the year.

— Well that didn’t last long. After telling Reggie Jackson to stay away from the Yankees indefinitely, Brian Cashman is now saying that Reggie Jackson could be back with the team on Friday.

— And last but not least, Brett Gardner will most likely be back in the next 2 weeks. Cashman and Gardner both gave the target date of July 27  in which he could return to the majors. Gardner had already been shut down twice during his rehab.Maybe third times a charm?

Morning Bits: Jackson, Rodriguez, Teixiera, Cashman

Good morning everyone and Happy Saturday to you all! Drink extra coffee, glue yourself to your chairs and turn on YES at 12:30 because today we’re playing a double-header! Let’s get onto the Morning Links!

— Reggie Jackson apologized about his comments to Alex Rodriguez yesterday but A-Rod wouldn’t say what the conversation they had over the phone was about.

— The RBI triple last night had to be especially sweet for Mark Teixiera since he feels that Vincente Padilla tends to him him with a pitch on purpose.

— Brian Cashman’s stalker was released from prison yesterday after making bail but if she doesn’t stay away from Cashman, she’ll be back in Rikers faster than a Mariano Rivera save.

Morning Bits: Phelps, Reggie Jackson’s thoughts on A-Rod

Good morning all.  The weekend is here and on top of that a series with the Red Sox.  Can the Yankees end with a strong series?  Can Martin actually hit the ball?  Will they score with RISP?  Kuroda vs Beckett on the mound today.

Let’s get to some links…..

John Nalbone of The Star Ledger writes that David Phleps has been sent to the Trenton Thunder (AA) to make room for McDonald.   Don’t let the AA thing bother you.  It’s just is the perfect fit to keep Phelps going to start on normal rest.   This is a good idea to get him stretched out in case the Yankees need him again.

— By now I’m sure you heard that Reggie Jackson had a lot to say about A-Rod.  Here is the story from Mark Feinsand of The Daily News.

— Bleeding Yankee Blue has a good article about Cole Hamels.  Check it out.
