Open Thread

Good Evening all.  If you search all the Yankee blogs like many do.  You can see Delia’s writing has been in two places today.  Of course like always she can be found here at Yankees Fans Unite Delia’s article today was about the arbitration players to remain for the Yankees.  Her work was also featured at Lohud today as well with an article on A.J. Burnett.

Chad Jennings of Lohud than wrote his own article discussing Delia’s take on A.J. Burnett.   So kudos to you Delia for being all over the place today.

This is your Open Thread feel free to discuss about anything you want.   At 7pm on YES is “Yankees Baseball Daily”  if you haven’t seen one of these yet they are great as they talk about all the latest happenings with the Yankees.  If you miss it no worries it repeats at 11pm.

Enjoy the night.

  1. To be honest, I’ve only see 1 clip of “Yankees Baseball Daily” and it was about how the 2012 starting lineup should look. I thought it was pretty awesome and now I’m hooked.

By the way, the Yankees should get a bat for the DH role since Andruw Jones only knows how to hit off left handed pitchers. (They talked about Jones in the clip I saw).

  2. According to CBS Sports’ Jon Heyman, Carlos Pena is drawing interest from the Indians.

    • That’s actually been reported several days ago. In fact I think I remember reading several days back that the GM went to ownership to see if they would free up some money so they might be able to sign him.

  3. On a different note. Did you read the piece about Fausto Carmona being arrested for using a false identity in the DR? What is it doesn’t anyone in the DR use their real names. Do they all want to be someone else?

  4. In case anyone was curious.

Physicals still holding up last week’s moves
    By Mike Axisa
Via Jon Morosi and Bob Klapisch, the Michael Pineda trade and Hiroki Kuroda signing are still not official because some of the players involved have been delayed in taking their physicals. Both Jesus Montero and Jose Campos are stuck in their home country of Venezuela at the moment, and Kuroda is still at home in Japan. It doesn’t sound like either move will be made official this week, so we wait.

  5. They just said on the show that the Yankees are not interested in Cespedes. So their goes that. I hope they still go for Soler though.

  6. According to the New York Daily News, Ryan Braun’s PED suspension appeal was heard on Thursday.

Not sure about you guys but I don’t think he has a shot of getting it overturned. They give you a list of everything you can and can’t put in your body. He should know what’s on the list.

  7. Twasp you think Damon will come back to the Yankees? I hear Tigers might be interested in him now that V-Mart is down.

  8. What do we think of Ibanez as the DH if had can be had on the cheap?

  9. Could you imagine when there was all that talk a couple of weeks back about interested the Yankees were in Garza if they had actually made a trade for him and given up a couple of high value prospects plus. Then on top of the prospects have him submit a $12.5MM arbitration number. That would have been insane

The Yankees got a kid in Pineda who’s probably just as good or certainly will be in a year in my opinion for basically “chump change” considering what Epstein was asking for Garcia. Turning down Garza and instead getting Pineda makes Cashman not only look like a genius it makes him look like Einstein and Theo Epstein look like Albert II (the first monkey in space) pretty stupid looking.

  10. Scratch Carlos Pena off anyone’s wish list for the Yankees. He’s signed with the Rays.

It’s beginning to look a lot like just a 2 horse race in the AL East with the Red Sox on the outside looking in.

    • Shrewd pickup by Andrew Friedman. He knows the Yanks & Sox both have only 1 lefty starter and basically 1 lefty releiver. So he adds Carlos Pena & Luke Scott to go with Matt Joyce to give him 3 guys at moderate prices that beat up on RHP.

The Yankees were much less effective vs RHP in 2011 yet have not added anyone to the offense. I hated seeing Posada in the lineup last yr but he was actually good vs RHP. Losing him and his replacement Montero leaves a hole. Gotta add a lefty bat to the mix which I think they will.

  11. Gardner settled for $2.8MM.
