Morning Bits: Branyan, Spring Training, Kuroda
Good morning all we are now 10 days away from pitchers and catchers reporting to spring training.
Let’s get right to the links….
* The Daily News mentions the Yankees powered up by adding Russell Branyan.
* Here is a list of a bunch of players the Yankees have invited to spring training.
* The New York Times says little mystery surrounding Kuroda.

Keith Law’s Top 100 is out. (insider only)
I will give you the yankees
23. Banuelos
34. Mason Williams (WOW)
55. Gary Sanchez
83. Betances
Matt, makes you wonder how accurate or subjective the individual placement of players on any list is. Here are those same players from MLB’s list just the other day:
13. Banuelos – (10 better than Law’s list)
41. Betances – (42 better than Law’s list)
53. Sanchez – (2 better than Law’s list)
73. Williams – (40 worse than Law’s list)
Sanchez is the only one of the four that’s close on both lists.
Matt, would it be possible for you to list here the Red Sox players that appear on Law’s list and when they appear number wise?
I’d like it for a comparison.
Here you go…..
45 Jose Iglesias
54 Anthony Ranaudo
for some reason it’s not letting me view prospects 76-100.
Thanks.
Do you know if Xander Bogaerts made the Red Sox list?
I thought I saw somewhere where he was #62 but I could be mistaken.
nope not at 62. but he could be anywhere from 76-100.
wait yes he is. hold please for the complete list of red sox players.
Below is all i have for the Red Sox
62 Xander Bogaerts
100 Blake Swihart
The names i gave earlier must have been from a previous year or something not updated.
check this out…. I would be in favor of this move. Hopefully Pitt changes their mind.

That would be a very nice coup for the Yankees if the somehow they could pull off the deal.
Matt, I’m obviously jumping the gun here. But it makes you wonder. Should the Yankees be able to work a trade with the Pirates for Jones.
Could that also pretend another possible move. I could see an Andruw Jones/Garrett Jones platoon in right field and a possible trade of Swisher not to far down the road.
That would free up some pretty decent dollars for maybe a Hamels or Cain signing at the end of the season should they make it to FA.
Do any of us really know where all of this could lead?
I could see the Yankees throwing in another piece with AJ to make the deal look better for the pirates.
I still think something could get done.
I agree. I don’t think we have heard the end of this yet.
Pirates are a young team and i’m sure they could use some pieces so if the Yankees can add in a strong C or B prospect to get it done than so be it.
I think a “C” prospect would be more then enough to add especially if they are going to eat $25MM of AJ’s salary.
Garret Jones can hit bombs. I did follow him a bunch the last couple years because of fantasy baseball.
Just wondering…am I the only one that doesn’t want to see A.J Burnett leave?
Yes U R!! If they get rid of him, people will be dancing in the streets!
Buster also said this.

also what is good about Jones is he could play RF, DH, or 1B.
I think with all the protection from the Yankee lineup he will fit in nicely and will excel.
Can’t argue with that. Now the Yankees just have to make something happen.
Garrett Jones would be OK i guess. Still think they had a no-brainer of a trade they could have made for Seth Smith before Billy Beane swooped in and stole him from Colorado. Of all the names I hear being thrown around, none of them have the numbers vs RHP that Smith does. I’ll cry in my cornflakes about Smith until they get a good bat.Waaa! lol
